Magellan Program – Orientation
OVERVIEW
The Magellan program is a space exploration program sponsored by the Protectorate and the Big Ten Corporations. Its purpose is to search for new worlds by sending explorative missions to the far corners of the galaxy. This research is aimed at the discovery of new planets for scientific research, planting colonies and the beginning of production activities on the planets discovered rich in natural resources.
HISTORY
After the Second Space Race and the subsequent formation of the Protectorate , it was determined that one of the priorities of the new order should have been : the search for new planets to colonize , in order to expand the markets for the Big Ten and to increase the production capacity of the latter . It was created a special commission with the aim of identifying the best possible means to encourage the exploration and colonization of planets , and thus was created the Magellan Program. As the great explorer of the centuries before the conquest of space , so our intrepid adventurers and explorers who are riding the gaps sidereal space, launch themselves towards new horizons to explore . The Program received permission to perform exploration on behalf of the Protectorate , and then it built the first ten exploratory shuttles for long-range missions . In the following months dozens of planets never cataloged before were discovered, and the Program received additional funding and resources to increase the number of ships in the fleet and the ability of exploratory. Currently the program has a fleet of 136 exploration ships , plus the flagship Columbus , which is essential for the operations of colonization on planets discovered.
MISSION
As already explained in the overview our mission is to explore the unexplored areas of the universe in search of planets to colonize, or where it is possible to install production facilities or mines to increase industrial and goods productions.
METHOD AND STRATEGIES
Exploring the cosmos does not mean send in jeopardy ships, crews and especially thousands of credits. Each exploration of the Big Ten has to follow a bureaucratic process and a set of very strict controls to ensure the greatest chance of success in the mission . Each exploration proceeds by three stages.
1) Organization : It’s the preparatory phase of the mission. In this phase we gather the crew, prepare the ship and assign a unexplored sector to reach . The ship will receive all the necessary supplies for the mission, and a week before departure, the crew will be kept under observation to check for any clinical problems and prepare them for departure.
2 ) Exploration : It s the main phase of the program . The shuttle left for the assigned destination , and starts searching in solar systems for planets suitable for human activities. It can take days like months , but in the end it always finds something. Once it has found a planet that is adaptable to the human’s activities, the crew descends to the ground to assess the possibility of exploitation, then a week goes by in order to assess the effects of medium-term stay on the planet, finally the crew produced a report on the research accomplished that sends to the Program Command
3) Settlement: The flagship Columbus moved into position above the planet , carrying building materials, supplies , vehicles, and the first settlement , consisting of an average of 5,000 to 20,000 people . The flagship presides plant operations until the full operation , then moves to the next time the planet .
PEOPLE
The crews of our ships are somewhat peculiar . Indeed, the Program requires boys and girls aged between 16 and 21 years of age to train the crews to be sent to exploration . We received a lot of pressure to increase the minimum age limit to participate in the operations, but the Program, in accordance with the Protectorate , is unanimous in saying that young kids have better chances of adaptation and survival in hostile environments , in space and on overall in each borderline situation that arises during the explorations These guys are all volunteers who showed up at one of our Recruitment Agencies scattered in the various planets of the Protectorate to register for the program and be part of a crew. The teens spend a period ranging from one to two years in training and then receive their ship of belonging and thus became actively part of the exploration.
Once they pass 21 years of age they may want to serve on the Columbus or enter into administrative and operational branch of the Program , working as a radio operator , technician, communications officer or bureaucrat . The careers offered by the Program never ends with the achievement of the twenty-first birthday !
SUPERVISION
The supervision of the Program is entirely done by the Protectorate. All decisions made by the Program are to refer to the directives of the Protectorate. Any planet discovered becomes the property of the Protectorate, and the colony later installed will be submitted to his directives. Any abuse of the means of the Protectorate, or any operational decision that goes out the directives of the Directorate will be considered an infringement of the same regulations, and prosecuted by law.
ORGANIZATION CULTURE
What we are looking for our employees, whether they are boys sent to the remote corners of the galaxy, or enlists bulls present in our Principals, is full cooperation with the directives of the Program and the Protectorate, and a total adherence to the code of conduct of the Program, especially by young people. We look for loyal, self-confident, courageous people, people that can endure toil, suffering, disease, death, who live and work together to build the well-being of our society, and who can live together for a long time. Smart people, ready to give their best for the good of all and able to fend for themselves.
FINAL NOTES
Command keen to point out a few points that will surely come to your ears. If you have ever heard rumors about some teams that have defected from their mission to establish independent colonies, other crews disappeared into far galaxy corners, or rumors about the martial law imposed on our colonies, know that they are only falsehood. The Program has never approved or has never been responsible for any of these things listed.
