Here be ye Rules and Stipulations
1. Flaming
Seems simple enough, eh? Be nice, yo. But, as with everything, it becomes very complicated, very quickly. So, we'll elaborate: flaming constitutes deliberately and maliciously calling names, making insinuations, and generally attempting to insult or demean another poster, or using ad hominems as a substitute for proper arguing. Friendly name-calling and joking about is all very well, but hurting others' feelings is unacceptable. Mods will have the final word as to what does and does not constitute flaming, but generally the perception of the victim will be considered before the intention of the accused. We have a no tolerance policy as regards flaming: First Offenders will be issued a WARNING, and if the behavior continues, the offender will be given a 7-Day ban, followed by a Permanent ban if they continue to violate the rules.
2. Trolling
Trolling will not be tolerated. Period. What constitutes trolling? Posting content, sending PMs, or using the Shoutbox in a manner intended to provoke, mislead or annoy other posters, or otherwise disrupt the forum. Again, what ultimately is considered to be trolling will be decided by the mods, but as a general rule, if you think something might be perceived as trolling, either ask in the Moderation forum, or don't post it. First Offenders will be issued a WARNING, and if the behavior continues, the offender will be given a 7-Day ban, followed by a Permanent ban if they continue to violate the rules. Some examples of what would be considered trolling:
3. Spamming
Another simple one: Don't Spam. What is spam? Posting advertisements, smilies, images, copypasted text or other content that is unrelated to the topic at hand, with the intent of disrupting the board. First Offenders will be issued a WARNING, and if the behavior continues, the offender will be given a 1-Day ban, followed by increasing ban lengths leading to a Permanent ban if they continue to violate the rules. Moderation will determine what does and does not constitute spamming.
4. Trollnaming
What is "trollnaming"? Simply put, it's a form of argument that consists of accusing another poster of trolling as a form of ad hominem, or because you don't like what they're saying. Trollnaming will be punished as flaming. If you believe another poster is trolling, report them in moderation. Don't try to call them out in the thread. That's our job, not yours.
5. Promoting illegal activity
This one is less obvious, but still a big no-no. Do not advise the commission of acts which are illegal, admit to committing illegal acts, or seek advice or help regarding the commission of such acts. Offending posts and replies will be removed, and the offenders subject to bans or warnings as moderation sees fit.
6. Plagiarism and Art Theft
Since Uprising is aimed at creating a copyrighted entertainment product, we take plagiarism and art theft very seriously. Simply put, do not post any creative work which is not yours, without mentioning that fact. Do not take credit for things you did not create. This kind of behavior could put us in serious danger of lawsuits and will absolutely not be tolerated. Anyone discovered to be doing this will receive an immediate, Permanent Ban. This may sound harsh, but due to the legal issues involved, it is imperative.
7. Gravedigging
Gravedigging, or bumping dead threads, is disruptive and a form of board vandalism. Gravedigging will be treated, and punished, as a form of spam.
8. Garish Posts and Board Vandalism
Similar to spam, large, brightly colored or otherwise garish and distracting text, .gif images, and other such content is distracting and disruptive to the board. Such activity will be treated as spam.
9. Explicit Content
Again, since Uprising's ultimate purpose is to create entertainment products, we have to observe obscenity guidelines. The TV show will be pushing for a TV-14 rating, and your posts should be similarly structured. Do not post pornographic or exceptionally gory images, or written content containing explicit descriptions of sex or gore. What constitutes pornographic or exceptionally gory content? Explicit images or descriptions of sexual penetration or touching, images or descriptions depicting extreme gore in detail beyond what is necessary to establish its existence, or general content which is deemed by moderation to possess a level of obscenity beyond what is necessary. What doesn't count as such? Anatomical drawings depicting nudity for the purpose of illustrating the attributes of a species, images or description of gore when it is discreet, and necessary for storytelling purposes, and content which is properly censored via cropping or the insertion of foreground objects covering the offensive material.
10. Posting Past Ban
Posting past ban is unacceptable. If you have been banned for a number of days, you are expected to remain off the site until such time as your ban has expired. Creating puppet accounts for the purpose of evading a ban is against the rules, and will be punished with an immediate, permanent ban of the original account and all sockpuppets.
